Handling of PC Data

Do you know anything about a huge damage caused by the information leakage ?

Recently, the increasing number of incidents caused by outflow and leakage of confidential data.
According to the NPO Japan Network Security Association, the number of person who are affected by the information leakage has achieved to 13,960,000., and the monetary damage was supposed to reach at Yen 278,800,000,000.
To prevent such huge damage, it is necessary to deepen the knowledge of security and to apply the proper treatment.
(quote from 「JNSA’s ‘the investigation report on Information Security Incidents in 2016’」)

At the end of the equipment’s life, how are you dealing with it ?

Information security protocol is not only limited to the equipment in use, since there are incidents such as outflow of the confidential date by the pre-owned equipment due to the lack of data erasure procedure, it is necessary to carefully apply the proper process to the equipment not in use.

Do you know anything about the possible restoration of data after its erasure ?

There are various methods of data erasure. These days, the technique of data recovery is improved, therefore it is necessary to select the most effective way of data erasure.
Move the files to the trash icon or formatting is not a safe way. Information can be easily restored by data recovery professional.
Recommendable method for the data erasure are the exclusive software for the data erasure and/or physical destruction.

Is there any official standard of data erasure in Japan ?

The answer is No.
Therefore, data erasure method varies and depends on the vender.
You have to choose the vender who is performing the high level data erasure with safe and reliable method.
Typical standard for the data erasure is known as DoD (Department of Defense standard in the USA), we employ the NIST standard which is recently drawn by National Institute of Standards and Technology.

Do you know anything about the method of data erasure for the equipment which can not be remover from premises ?

There are many corporations of which office regulation prohibits the removal of ICT equipment with its data.
At the time of ICT equipment’s disposal, it is absolutely necessary to erase the data contained in it, however the regulation just does not allow to bring it to the service vender. The solution is simple that to call the on-site service provider.
On-site service means that perform the service at customer’s premises, in other words, data erasure would be possible without bring the equipment out of the premises.
It is possible to physically destroy the broken hard disks by one of the following three methods, namely, perforation, degaussing and shredding.
Personal computers are without a doubt, servers, storages, smart phones and tablets can be subject to the data erasure service.
We provide the report of result of data erasure by every hard disk and such report can be also provided in English.

In 2014, NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) renewed the guideline of storage media data erasure which included SSD. They describe the two method for the erasure.

Cancel the noninvasive data recovery method. Namely, the data can not be restored through OS or other Utility/Application software, however there is no assurance of the complete data erasure.

Perfect erasure. Cancel the laboratory level data recovery. There is no way of restoration of data by disassembly of drive, changing the configuration and any trial and error.
Furthermore, NIST and US Air Force requested to verify the erasure process and procedure by way of the confirmation of restoration of the letters, which were overwritten and were about 10% of data, randomly extracted from the storage media.
※We employ the software, which is capable of both Clear and Purge.

Proper Media Sanitization defined by NIST

There are few methods of sanitizing the media and NIST suggests the most general methods such as Disposal, Erasure, Purge and Destruction.
We provide the most effective sanitization process with consideration of customer’s needs, costs and environment friendliness.

The term for the process and/or procedure that prevents the data recovery/ restoration from the storage media.
